Practical Magic
The movie is spun around a family of witches and the love curse that haunts them. After their mother dies of a broken heart because of the curse, two sisters move into their ancestral home to live with their delightfully eccentric aunts. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star as the adult sisters with contrasting views of their magical gifts. While Bullock denounces her own gifts to attempt to live a "normal" life with her two daughters, Kidman plays her sister who has a lust for life and breaking men's hearts. The movie is also about learning how to be yourself and the quaint little town that they all live in, full of its prejudices and fears towards witches and the power of compassion that can bring human hearts together. All in all, I thought it was as wonderful movie and a refreshing change from the recent stream of mega-productions filling the theatres. Both of my older kids saw it with me and loved it as well. It's one of those movies that you just sit back and enjoy.

What Dreams May Come
Symbolisms of heaven and hell fill this movie as Chris Nielsen, played by Robin Williams, dies in an accident and leaves his soulmate and wife, Annie, behind. Williams gives a superb performance in this movie, along with Cuba Goodman, Jr. who plays his heavenly guide. The special affects and dreamscape worlds of the movie are spectacular as well. All of these put together should have made a recipe of success. However, I had several problems with it, beginning with the fact that the theatre was full with elementary-aged children and is definitely NOT made for young viewers. Parts of the movie was slow moving and had the young audience, at the theatre I saw it at, fidgetting in their seats. Other parts that seemed key to the storyline flew past. Careful if you blink an eye during this movie, you might miss something important. I may have enjoyed the movie more if I had been watching it alone or in the company of collegiate intellectuals assigned to pick apart the elements of the movie. I apologized to my mom, who had taken my kids and I to see it for my birthday. This is one movie that I wouldn't advise you to spend your hard-earned entertainment budget on.

Bride of Chucky
After a week of watching past Chucky movies every night and listening to my 7yr old Jen squeal whenever a preview played, we finally came to an agreement that hubby would take her to see it. According to both, it was fabulous and just as blood thirsty as the previous movies about the murderous doll who seeks eternal life. This one has heavy sexual overtones since he takes a bride who gets pregnant. Could it be that Junior will star in the next sequel? *lol* *oh groan* With my luck, they'll come out with another one just before next Halloween and have the movie open after another week of replays. Jen can watch them over and over.
