This page is a hodgepodge of Non Fiction books and a couple of videos that I thought folks would find interesting. As with the other pages of our Hawaiiana section, I have tried to tread carefully through the lists of titles available. One aunty *smiling fondly as I can almost hear Aunty Ada* warned me to be careful, particularly over which children's books I recommended and which history books. I would openly recommend all of Marilyn Kahalewai's children's books because of their flair fo teaching local children using familiar island settings but they are currently not available at Amazon. I'll keep looking for sources though. As for history books, I have to admit that I haven't read some of the current material available. If you are wanting to learn more about Hawaiian history, the one title I would suggest you start with is Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queenby our beloved Queen Lili'uokalani. It is full of the names, dates and details of the events leading up to the overthrow of the Hawaii monarchy.

This is by no means a definitive listing of Hawaiiana available but an ecletic sample. My guess is that this will be the section I end up working the hardest at updating. Keep visiting or add yourself to the ListBot on my Homepage and I'll keep you abreast of the changes.

Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queenby Lili'uokalani
Larry Kwiatkowski (onipaa@onipaa.com) from Honolulu, Hawai`i, wrote in his own review of the book: A beautiful and heartfelt account of tragedy. Hawai`i's Story by Hawai`i's Queen Lili`uokalani details an account of the heartache and tragedy of the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy by the Committee of Safety (Missionary Party) in the late 1800s. Written in the Victorian style of the times by the queen herself, her account shows she was very well aware that she and her people were doomed. Lili`uokalani proves herself a very dignified and regal lady, every inch a queen. Highly recommended reading for the real facts of this tragic period of Hawaiian history.

Keoni's Rock 'N' Hula:Hula Aerobics Keoni Atkinson Vhs Video edition (for use in United States and Canada only)
From the writer/director: Fun workout with warm up, stretching, Great Hawaiian scenery. I wrote and directed Keoni's Rock'N'Hula with idea of "Fun" in mind. Our helicopter crew and road crews captured many beautiful scenes on the Big Island of Hawaii and we edited those into a 33 minute workout video demonstrating Hawaii's warmth, friendliness, and spirituality. After twelve years of performing hula shows before an estimated five million tourists, Keoni followed through on his aspiration of reviving the Hula for it's original purpose of expressing love, spirituality, and caring for one another through exercising and toning of ones own body both for health and beauty. We at Real America Pictures are proud to present Keoni's Rock'N'Hula to you. Thank you, Benjamin H. Novick, Director RockNHula@aol.com.
