For leisure reading, my favorite authors are of the Sci-Fi Fantasy genre. Marion Zimmer Bradley tops my favorite list, followed by Mercedes Lackey and Glen Cook.
Marion Zimmer Bradley
Of course, my favorite book by this author is "Mists of Avalon", the arthurian legends through the eyes of the women, mainly Morgana, half sister to Arthur and pagan priestess. Since reading all three books in that trilogy, I have enjoyed reading her other books. I've just finished "Gravelight", which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Mercedes Lackey
After a friend urged me to read Lackey's Diana Telgrade series, I became hooked on her more modern fiction, including the Serrated Edge series about modern-day elves who live discreetly amongst humans.
Glen Cook
Garrett, beer guzzling detective with an attitude, keeps you laughing with him or at him as he solves his latest case. Once you read the first two of the series, you can jump around through the series with a well-grounded appreciation of the other characters. Like Garrett's sidekick, the Dead Man, a 400yo Loghyr who has a tendency for long naps and getting into Garrett's head at the worst moments *lol*. I read Garrett books while I'm reading the action-packed novels by the other two woman. In intense moments, a few pages of Garrett will have me laughing hysterically. One word of warning: Be careful when you read one of the Garrett books. People may think you're crazy when you can't stop laughing.
In the coming weeks, I'll have more details about each author. Right now, I'm racing towards my self-appointed deadline to have the Labyrinth's Grand Opening on November 9th *lol*.
