ALL of these ideas are less expensive and more fun to create than purchasing the items outright. You have the satisfaction of knowing YOU made it and saved money doing so. And many can be created very last minute. For some you need to plan ahead a little. Most of the accessories involved can be found at your local thrift shops, garage sales or even in your own home!

DECORATIONS/WRAPPING

Spoon Hanging
Take an old silver spoon (you can get em at thrift stores) and use your glue gun to glue in a few small dried flowers, ribbon and lace, however you choose. Tie a 1/8 bow around the neck. It's a darling gift.

Gift Bags
Use plain brown bags with nothing on them. Lunch bags are great for small gifts. You might have to really look around to find larger ones, but they are out there. Use stickers, markers, paint, stamps, calligraphy, sponge paint, anything at all to decorate them! The bag is often as much fun as the gift inside!

Handmade Wrapping Paper
Make your OWN! Use butcher paper, or newsprint which you can purchase from your local Newspaper office (the end of the roll they can't use, usually less than $1, for ALOT). Decorate with stamping, drawings, or let the kids loose on it and use it for Gramma and Grampa!

Felt Ornaments
Draw patterns for felt ornaments. I've made lots of these. For a train I used a basic engine pattern and then felt wheels, windows, etc. All different colors. The tree has different buttons sewn on each branch. The wreath is empty in the center and a picture glued in, with a bright red felt ribbon above it. The present has fabric "ribbons" topped with a felt bow. These are really fun and easy to make and everyone can get into the act!
